The Random Ponderings of S.A.M. (a Somewhat Altered Mind) The following are not the rants and raves of a mad man (though the jury may still be out on that). Nor is it the trained, concise, diagnosis of a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist. It is merely my own personal observations from the world around me during the course and extent of my lifetime of experiences. Use it is a guide for living, suggestions from a friend, papers to line your birdcage, or shear entertainment. As these written words are simply meant for you to ponder, absorb or throw away as you see fit. One of the greatest gift God gave us was freedom of choice, so far be it from me to demand you do anything with the contents of this page that is contrary to who or what you are. I am that I am, you are that you are.. so go out, be stupid, be wise, be loud, be liberated, or just be quiet, but be who you are and if you have a little time leftover to spare, please ponder the random thoughts of a somewhat altered mind. Take care, take heed, take hold, take a nap and live your life as you were meant to be. For who can be you but you? |

1. What we believe in others is often only what we believe of ourselves or those around us - our beliefs are so limited sometimes as we believe mostly in what we see, touch, taste, smell, and hear. Someone once told me that she did not believe that I never lost my temper since I was a child and this somewhat disturbed me. Not in being called a liar, so much as she had probably known no such person in her lifetime. It is disappointing to find people of faith with so little faith in each other. I was in an interview a few years back and was being stared down by this Japanese business owner and the first words to come out of his mouth was that I am much too trusting to ever make a good businessman myself. He could see it in my eyes that I was weak in that way. I returned to him in asking, "Is it indeed weak of me to be trusting of others at first hand? or strong of me in faith to keep trusting even though my trust has been abused before? what kind of world would this be, if at first site, all we had was mistrust for one another?" This is not to say that you should trust all people, all the time because there are many bad people in the world. Much worst even than you have ever encountered till now I bet. It is just to Ponder; what world would we create? if we never put trust forward and never seek trust in return. What kind of relationships would this practice develop and could we ever be happy within them?
2. Who tolls the bell? - Does Pavlov's Research Ring a Bell? Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a russian psychologist who won the noble prize and is best known for his works in classical conditioning where he'd ring a bell every time he would feed his dog thus creating an associated response of salivation in anticipation for food with the bell ringing. So then later the dog would start salivating upon the bell ringing even when there was no food. So what does this all have to with me, I am human after all and very different from a dog am I not? or are we? Through our life experiences we start to associate things with each other. Santa Claus with Christmas, raindrop with tears, large baseball hail with "better run for it" end of the world. Haha, just kidding.. we also associate a certain look or response as an indication of certain feelings. Or a set of events with a certain end result. After a while the conditioning we develop for ourselves become second nature and we no longer think about them, but simply react accordingly. Much like Pavlov's dog, don't you think? Well, you knew I would bring that up sooner or later right? Now, if our life is great and a vision of perfection personified, that would be awesome. Congratulations! you are where you want to be right? but if there is something missing or you always end up in bad relationships or lousy unappreciative jobs repeatedly, ask yourself; What conditioning or pattern have I created for myself that throws me into this vicious circle of endless turmoil and chaos? getting depressed about it, won't help, neither will blaming God or amping yourself up in an anxiety frenzy. These reactions will only make you sick and create a whole new set of problems for yourself. So what is a boy/girl to do? Do it different! and change the result to something more suitable to your desire. Doesn't have to be a big change, maybe just one change, then another, switch it up a bit till you get it right. Not your base values or morality itself mind you, just little things you do or places you go. Have a fudge ripple over mint chocolate chip ice cream. Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference or at least the right difference to find your fit in whatever you are looking for. Do you like math? what is 1 + 2 - 1 x 5 = answer is 10 right? now what happens if you change the first numeral 1 to 2 or switch any two numbers in this formula? you get a different answer or more importantly a different outcome. Doesn't it make sense? Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. Assuming we are all of sane mind here, we can mix things up a little in the routine to mix things up some in our lives and with a little patience and perseverance I am sure we can find the balance that is our personal fit. Should we not be of sound mind and body, then there are pills for that, please call 1-800-XANAXme for more information and Have a Nice Day!
